Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC)
365体育官网A total of 10 schools will participate in the Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) program during the 2019-2020 school year. All students who attend our schools in the morning, regardless of income level, will be eligible to receive one free breakfast each day they attend school. Teachers will schedule 10 minutes at the beginning of class each morning for students to enjoy a healthy breakfast with their classmates.

1- What schools in the Salt Lake City School District will participate in the BIC program starting Monday, August 19, 2019?
Participating Schools:365体育官网 Backman Elementary, Escalante Elementary, Meadowlark Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, Riley Elementary, Rose Park Elementary, and Washington Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Bryant Middle School, and Horizonte.
2- How long will the BIC program last?
The BIC program will run from the first scheduled day of school through the end of the school year.
3- Is each student required to take a school breakfast?
365体育官网No. Receiving a school breakfast is an individual choice and not a requirement.
4- Where must my child go in the morning to receive a breakfast?
At each location, school hours and bell schedules will remain unchanged. Students will assemble in the school gymnasium where adult supervision is provided. Each student will have the opportunity to pick up their meal before proceeding directly to their assigned classroom. Due to building overcrowding and student safety concerns, we ask all parents to quickly exit the building after dropping off their children at school.
5- What are the new breakfast service hours at each school?
Backman Elementary - Doors open at 7:45 and breakfast service begins at 8:05 a.m.
Escalante Elementary- Doors open at 8:35 and breakfast begins at 8:40 a.m.
Meadowlark Elementary - Doors open at 7:38 and breakfast service begins at 7:45 a.m.
Mt. View Elementary - Doors open at 7:45 and breakfast service begins at 8:00 a.m.
Riley Elementary - Doors open at 8:05 and breakfast service begins at 8:20 a.m.
Rose Park Elementary - Doors open at 7:45 and breakfast service begins at 7:52 a.m.
Washington Elementary - Doors open at 8:10 and breakfast service begins at 8:30 a.m.
Liberty Elementary- Doors open at 7:50 and breakfast service begins at 8:00 a.m.
Bryant Middle School- Breakfast service begins at 7:55 a.m.
Horizonte - Breakfast service begins at 9:00 a.m.
6- Will the BIC program provide a free lunch to all students who attend the school?
No. School lunch is not included as part of the BIC program. Students will continue to eat their lunch in the school cafeteria as normal. Student accounts will be charged the regular student price for a school lunch, unless the student qualifies for free and reduced meal benefits.
7- Should I apply for free and reduced meal benefits if my student attends a BIC program school?
YES. The school district relies entirely upon federal funding to cover the cost of the BIC program. Annual free and reduced meal benefit applications or individual direct certification through Utah government agencies is still recommended.
