Dear SLCSD families and community,
January was an exciting month, with so many things happening, and it doesn’t look like things are going to slow down in February. In this monthly message, I want to focus on three issues.
Student health and safety is always our top priority. We are working closely with local health departments to track the spread of the novel coronavirus and to make sure students’ and employees’ well-being remains a priority.

On Friday, February 28, 2020, the Salt Lake Education Association (our district’s teachers’ association) has declared a Day of Action. Teachers will be holding a walk-out in the afternoon to encourage the Utah Legislature to prioritize public education funding.
The Salt Lake City School District’s School Fee Schedules are changing in structure to align with new state rules, and the Board of Education is interested in receiving comments from employees, parents, students, and patrons on the proposed revisions.
Over the last week, we have spent time with you on our Late Start listening tour, hearing your concerns and thoughts on late start in our high schools. We are grateful to each of you who took time to attend, to our staff members who helped organize and execute, and to all who have shared their thoughts with us via email or in person.
